At Castaways, our goal is to rescue dogs from abusive and neglectful circumstances, as well as dogs who are at risk of being euthanized due to capacity issues at area shelters. Through our endeavors, we strive to spread a message of compassion and hope to both dogs and people alike.

The name Castaways was selected because we believe every being has inherent value, and should thus, not be casted aside. In believing this, we find it our duty to serve those who have been labeled a "castaway." Here, dogs get a second chance to live their best lives.
OUR FOUNDERS
The founders of Castaways Rescue, Inc began fostering while stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan circa 2014. It was there that the they were inspired by the relentless efforts of rescue workers who saved dogs from Okinawan high risk, euthanasia shelters.
In 2017, the desire to form a rescue struck the founders deeply, as they returned from overseas, and saw the horrific euthanasia rates in Eastern North Carolina. Furthermore, they observed that most existing rescues and county shelters were constantly at capacity. It was evident that more resources were needed. In 2019, the founders embarked upon the journey of creating a non-profit dog rescue and filed their Articles of Incorporation with the state of North Carolina.They received their 501c3 determination in June of 2020, and became a registered charity in the state of North Carolina in 2021.
